Gnomeo and Juliet

Gnomeo & Juliet - Perfect for the whole family, this fresh and funny makeover of one of the world's most timeless stories features music from Sir Elton John, and the voice talents of Emily Blunt, James McAvoy and Sir Michael Caine. Caught up in a feud between neighbors, Gnomeo and Juliet must overcome as many obstacles as their namesakes. But with flamboyant pink flamingos and epic lawnmower races, can this young couple find lasting happiness?

This film based loosely on the ideas of a popular romantic tragedy by Shakespeare, which you could bearly relate. The traditional phrases from the play were used very loosely and amalgamated badly into the script.  Added to a clearly low budget copy cat of a first attempt at animation made this film almost cringworthy to watch.  The low budget special effects, the ideas taken from bigger well known animation and the poor script made this film a disappointment.  A film where the supporting cast were more interesting than the main characters.

Their were a few humours moments to this film, and the film was not so bad we gave up watching part way through.  The plot was somewhat amusing and their was some good characters to this story.  I could see why children would like it, but unlike the bigger productions it could not get the balance right between children's film with enough subtle phrases and actions that adults could also enjoy. Plus some really dodgy phrases dotted about would put me off letting children watch this film in fear of copying - i.e. 'you got some junk in that trunk' and one phrase which was saying your sister looks like a gnome.

Overall unless you really had to, I would give this film a miss and focus on some of the better made animation.
