Rango

Rango is a sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet, while facing a major identity crisis. After all, how high can you aim when your whole purpose in life is to blend in? When Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt - a lawless outpost populated by the desert's most wily and whimsical creatures - the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out. Welcomed as the last hope the town has been waiting for, new Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role to the hilt..

This film was not what I was expecting, and better in some ways than I thought. I had not heard much about this film - no hype, no trailers, I don't even think it was released at the cinema, which is a shame.  After watching it, it was very apparent this was not aimed at children - especially not young children and I'm not sure older children would have seen this film for what it was.

A film thats hard to explain, think of your typical western and instead of actors they are these strange creatures.  Following the rules and stereotypes of a western in a cartoon form. Rango looking for an identity rocks up in a town and (coming from an acting background - probably to kill time kept as a family pet) he pretends to be someone else, a better someone than he was.  Then he has to live up to these expectations.  This film has some strong morals and strong story lines to it, which is broken up by some great witty moments.  The animation and general scenery is very well done and it does just feel like a typical western. You can almost forget you are watching an animation.  The casting is well done and the characters are as expected of this genre.

A great little find.  A little oddball film which is not your typical animation, but great and amusing in its weird and wonderful way. Worth a watch.
