Resident Evil, follows the story of a viral weapon that has leaked (the T Virus) and is spreading, the infection causes people who should have died to become the undead, and feast on others. The Umbrella Corp, who built and experimented with the virus, need to be brought down, and as the virus wipes out the world, they just keep experimenting, not caring who gets killed. The heroine Alice (who becomes half mutant) is trying to stop Umbrella Corp, with the help of any survivors that she meets. Film one, is the initial outbreak of the virus in one of the Umbrella Corps bases, by film two its spread to the local town, Film three - the world, and film four (the final showdown), is dealing with the infection as it is still spreading and mutating.
I had misconceptions about these films before i watched them, but then i didn't even know what they were about. So I watched them with an open mind. We watched all four films in the space of three days (the last two watched one straight after the other) and I quite enjoyed them.
I quite like Zombie films, and thought this might be scarier than they were, the scariest bit for me was in the first film where the lift drops (but thats only cause i have a big fear of lifts) and probably because thats when the people in the film were human. You don't really mind zombies having their brains blown out.
The films, as they progressed, got better, although I think the fourth one was pushing it a bit I still found it amusing. It also helped that as the films progressed, you could see filming had also progressed, in sharper clearer images, better special effects, better make up etc. And this was quite interesting to see. Some of the acting was a wee bit dodgy and some of the sound dubbing was also but this was all part of the amusement factor of the films. Their are also a few inconsistencies in the films, and a lot of bits where you think, how did they do that or that was impossible but that also was the nature of the film. If you have zombies killing the world i'm sure not everything has to be realistic (really that blew up, thats physically impossible.)
Overall I enjoyed the films, and found them entertaining. Taken lighthearted they make for good entertainment on a night, glass of wine in one hand, bowl of popcorn (or in our case haribo) sit down and enjoy the entertainment.
